The Bruins cross country teams continued their season last Saturday by participating in the Warrior Invitational, hosted by Southern Wesleyan University in Central, S.C.
Senior Abby Stanley, captain of the women’s team, ran a quick time of 21:15 and finished third overall. Stanley also qualified for the NCCAA nationals competition. The next Bruin to finish was Meg Phillipo in 11th place, with a time of 21:53. Out of seven schools, the Bruins finished in third place, making this the best meet so far for the Bruins women.
The women set the bar high, but the Bruins men bumped it up another level in their race. Captain and senior Aaron Iles raced strategically and didn’t have any problems pulling ahead of the pack to finish well ahead of the second place runner. Iles’ fast finish led the men to a second place overall out of six teams.
The Bruins men had four top-20 finishers, with Nathan Zakariasen coming in 15th, finishing at 20:06. Close behind at 18th and 19th were Joshua Rush and Daniel Marinelli, respectively.
Tonight the Bruins will run at the Warren Wilson Invitational in Asheville, N.C.
