Tense. Dark. Hopeful.
Taylor Stephens, director of the Bob Jones University Theatre Department’s upcoming thriller “Wait Until Dark,” described the show in those three words. “Wait Until Dark” is showing on Oct. 25, 26 and 31, and Nov. 1 and 2 in Performance Hall. It is the first show in the BJU Theatre Department’s 2024-2025 season.
Stephens, a senior theatre major, will make her directorial debut. The show is a story of con artists trying to trick a blind woman. It involves dramatic irony by letting the audience know what is happening while the characters try to figure it out. The irony creates a tension that is sure to enthrall audiences.
“There will be blackout scenes. They’re still acting within the blackout,” Stephens said about the unusual features of the show.
Erika McGonigal, also a senior theatre major and playing the lead role, agreed. She said she is excited for the audience to reach the end of the play and experience the feelings of the show portrayed through the actors’ voices during the blackouts.
In true BJU Theatre Department fashion, the show features an ensemble cast of students in various majors, ranging from freshmen to graduate students. Stephens said the actors have been a joy to work with and a highlight of her experience. Both Stephens and McGonigal are excited for audiences to see the show.
