Lady Bruins fall to Reinhardt

The BJU Lady Bruins relinquished an early lead and took a tough 3-1 loss on the road to the Reinhardt University Eagles Tuesday night.

“We continue to get unbalanced and haven’t stepped up with the right urgency and attitude to start winning these types of games,” Coach Chris Carmichael said. “We were getting great effort on both sides of the ball by some, but not everyone.”

The game started off well for the women’s team, as Kaitlyn Hummel placed the first point on the board with a magical strike.

The Bruins tried to keep a clean sheet defensively, but RU had other plans, and the Eagles were able to equalize before the half.

After the half, the Bruins attempted to regain the lead. They pressured high and created several scoring opportunities but could not record a second goal.

After a defensive mistake, the Lady Eagles were able to score and make it 2-1. Uncharacteristically, the Bruins followed with yet another defensive mistake. The Eagles capitalized on this miscue as well to extend their lead to 3-1. The Bruins were unable to find another goal, and the Eagles won with the final score of 3-1.

“We showed we can compete with one of the top teams in the AAC, but to win takes 90 minutes of the highest effort we can give,” Carmichael said. “We have to hit that higher gear.”
