Kangas exterminate flames

The sixth-seeded Tau Delta Chi Kangas defeated the fourth-seeded Nu Alpha Phi Flames on Monday, 14-5.  The Kangas, who were 1-1 going into the game, had just lost a close one to the Flames last week in extra innings, 15-14. Looking to even things up and move on in their playoff journey, the Kangas showed their ability to work together as a team to get the job done.

Games are played to six innings, and the playoffs are set up in a single elimination format. The Flames, sitting at a 2-0 record going into the game, took a quick 1-0 advantage in the first inning. The Kangas quickly tied things up in the second inning before jumping out to a 5-2 lead by the end of the third.

Late in the game, the Kangas found their stride and went on a scoring spree before senior Catherine Norton hit a grand slam to ensure the victory. The Flames were able to tack on a few more runs by the sixth inning, but it wasn’t enough as the Kangas went on win the game, 14-5.

Much of the Kanga’s success came from the pitching of sophomore Bethany Williams, who was able to strike out five of the Flames’ batters. Monday night’s win gives the Kangas a 2-1 record before going up against the Theta Delta Tigers on Tuesday night at 6 p.m.
