- LeBron James scored 61 points last Monday, setting a franchise record for the Miami Heat and leading his team to a 127-104 victory over the Charlotte Bobcats. James, who made his first eight 3-point attempts of the game, is the second player this season to break a scoring record against the Bobcats: Carmelo Anthony scored 62 against them earlier this season.
- The Florida Gators received 46 votes on Monday to hold first place in the Associated Press poll, largely due to their school-record 21-game winning streak. Wichita State (31-0) and Arizona (27-2) follow closely behind as March Madness draws near.
- Newcastle has fined its manager, Alan Pardew, 100,000 pounds after he head-butted Hull midfielder David Meyler last Saturday in an off-field confrontation. This is not United’s first time dealing with their unpredictable manager, as this is Pardew’s fifth altercation with an opposing player since 2006. He has been issued an official warning along with the fine.
