  1. Sen. Maria Cantwell, D-Wash., and Rep. Tom Cole, R-Okla., have sent a letter to NFL commissioner Roger Goodell, once again demanding that the Washington Redskins change their name. “The National Football League can no longer ignore this and perpetuate the use of this name as anything but what it is: a racial slur,” the letter stated. Cantwell and Cole are now threatening the NFL’s tax-exempt status to apply pressure, but owner Dan Snyder has staunchly held to the name.
  2. Oklahoma State basketball star Marcus Smart has been suspended for three games, after he shoved a fan who taunted him at a their matchup against Texas Tech. He will be allowed to play again on Feb. 22, the night of their rematch against Texas Tech.
  3. Manchester United, despite controlling 75 percent of possession in the match, reached the lowest point of its season last week after a draw against Fulham. Manchester had come back from an early Fulham goal and taken the lead in the second half, but Fulham scored an equalizer in the final minute to rob Manchester United of three much-needed points. As of last Monday, Manchester sits 15 points off the leader, Chelsea.
