The men’s golf team traveled to Rome, Ga., on Monday to participate in the two-day Chick-fil-A Collegiate Invitational tournament. The Bruins golf team was coming off a historic tournament win last week in the Hiwassee College Invitational. The Chick-fil-A tournament, hosting 25 teams, is the Bruins’ largest tournament to date.
Early into the first round, freshman Zeier Fleming suffered a back injury and lasted only nine holes. Unfortunately, this set the tone for the day, and the team ended the first round close to the bottom despite some good golfing.
The Bruins stepped up in round two, as sophomore Kyle James filled in for the injured Fleming and shot a team-best 79. While the Bruins did shoot a lower second round than the first, it wasn’t enough to boost their ranking, giving them a 22nd place finish.
The team will compete next in the South Regional Tournament in Easley, S.C., Oct. 14 to 15.
