Showing the goodness of God and the power of His voice will be this semester’s Day of Prayer theme. The theme comes from Psalm 116:1, which says, “I love the Lord, because he hath heard my voice.”
Once a semester, the BJU campus takes a break from the normal, busy routines of studying and work to set aside a day for praying and praising God.
This semester’s Day of Prayer will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 1. The schedule of the day will follow the pattern of past Days of Prayer.
The day begins in the FMA with a praise and chapel service led by Dr. Jim Berg, followed by two sessions throughout the morning for prayer. The first break-out prayer session, consisting of smaller, more focused groups, divides students based on academic adviser. For the second prayer time, students will be able to choose from various groups, which are divided based on different ministry burdens, such as camps and extensions. At noon, a picnic lunch will be held in the Activity Center, provided there is good weather. If it rains, lunch will be held in the dining common. A song service in the FMA will be the final event of the day.
Kyle Wilcox, executive assistant to Dr. Jones and coordinator of many of the day’s events, offered some advice on how to enter the day with a prepared heart.
“I’d encourage reading through select Psalms on Monday night to really prepare your heart to take full advantage of this day,” Wilcox said.
