South Africa: Double amputee runner and Olympian, Oscar Pistorius, has been formally charged with murdering his girlfriend on Feb. 14. Pistorius won gold in the men’s 400-meter T44 final in the Paralympics last summer.
Austria: At the Alpine World Ski Championships on Sunday, native Austrian and overall World Cup champion Marcel Hirscher won gold in the men’s slalom competition. This is Hirscher’s first individual gold medal at a major event.
Qatar: Tennis player Victoria Azarenka held steady through the first set, dominated the second and came from behind in the third to win the Qatar WTA Ladies Open last Sunday. Azarenka beat American rival Serena Williams, breaking a 10-match losing record and winning her 16th major title.
