What do root beer floats, spicy UNO and fellowship have in common? Bob Jones University’s first Ignite event of the school year, which was held on Sept 30. at 10 p.m.
After a long week of classes, students gathered in The Den to relax and play games with one another before the weekend. The Student Leadership Council provided root beer and Pepsi floats for those who attended.
Ju Mendoza, a junior early childhood education major and member of the SLC, was surprised by how many students came to Ignite. She said, “We really were not expecting that many people to show up on that night. We were budgeting, like, 150 people, and we had so many people who came out. We were really excited about that.”
Anna DeAngelo, a freshman kinesiology major, enjoyed her first Ignite experience at BJU. One of her favorite parts was getting to play games with friends. She said, “We got to play spicy UNO, and it got very intense. It was very funny.”
To close the night, everyone gathered under shelter outside for a time of singing and worship. Despite the wind and rain, their voices echoed the words of “In Christ Alone,” “Wonderful, Merciful Savior” and “Yet Not I but Through Christ in Me.”
DeAngelo also enjoyed singing. She said, “It was just really cool and encouraging to be with a group of believers who all were just aiming to glorify Christ and praise and worship Him.”
