The Bob Jones University School of Education and Human Services will host a seminar featuring alumnus and attorney Miles Coleman speaking about the Constitutional rights of educators and students in public schools. The seminar will take place on Sept. 27 at 5 p.m. in Levinson Hall.

The event, titled “Educators and the U.S. Constitution,” will include Coleman speaking about developments and issues that current and future educators will need to prepare to address, especially regarding the first-amendment rights of students and teachers in public schools. All students and members of the public are welcome to attend.

Coleman is a partner in the Greenville office of Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough, where he specializes in appeals, business litigation and First Amendment law. He serves as chairman of the S.C. chapter of the Federalist Society for Law and Public Policy and is a member of the S.C. State Advisory Committee to the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights.

Coleman draws his experience with First Amendment law from practice on behalf of officials, public agencies and private individuals. The 2023 ranking of The Best Lawyers in America® nominated Coleman as one of the best attorneys in the First Amendment Law category.

Admitted to the Supreme Court of the United States, Coleman has filed dozens of amicus briefs for the court, including some he co-authored with Professor Alan Dershowitz and Professor Carl Esbeck. Coleman has also provided pro bono representations to indigent criminal defendants, including one on death row.

Before graduating cum laude from University of South Carolina School of Law in 2009, Coleman completed a BA in Rhetoric and Public Address from BJU, where he graduated magna cum laude in 2005. During law school, he served as Symposium Editor for the South Carolina Law Review and Editor of the Harvard Journal of Law and Public Policy.
