The Greenville Concert Band will perform two concerts this weekend at local venues.
The band was started in 1933 by a group of musicians led by Dr. L. E. Dellinger and T. A. Harn. The Greenville Concert Band, according to its website, “promotes the quality performance and appreciation of band music of classical and popular genres, balancing audience appeal with challenging literature for its members.” It is a non-profit organization, and all of its concerts are free and open to the public.
Members of the band are from all ages and walks of life, including several Bob Jones University faculty and students. The director, Dr. Dan Turner, is the Director of Bands, Director of Instrumental Activities and Professor of Music at BJU. He promotes new wind compositions, especially from rising young composers of our day.
The band’s concerts, titled “The Glory of Christmas,” are at 3 p.m., Dec. 14 at the White Oak Baptist Church Gymnasium, 1805 Wade Hampton Boulevard, across the street from the BJU campus and at 2 p.m., Dec. 15 at the Cannon Centre, 204 Cannon St., in Greer.
Further information on concert schedules, concert recording and membership details can be found on the Greenville Concert Band’s website.
