The Beta Delta Gamma Patriots earned another Turkey Bowl trophy and maintained their undefeated status after winning 3-1 in the championship game on Saturday against the Pi Kappa Sigma Cobras.
The teams split possession pretty evenly throughout the first half of the game, with many shooting opportunities for both societies.
Both the Patriots and the Cobras had offensive surges before the defensive lines turned the attacks around. With just over 15 minutes left in the first half, Patriot freshman Isaac Korver pushed past the Cobras’ back line and tapped the ball in for the first goal of the game.
But the Cobras didn’t give Beta a chance to outdo their momentum. Cobra freshman Ryan Weldon scored a minute after Beta from approximately 23 yards out, placing the ball just outside the goalie’s reach and tying the game up as the teams entered halftime.
The teams entered the second half strong, each having a set play and shot on goal within the first five minutes. Beta was given a penalty kick 10 minutes into the second half, and Donovan Lewis shot just above the goalie’s hands for a 2-1 lead.
Neither team slowed for the rest of the game. However, the Cobras were unable to capitalize on their shot opportunities and Beta remained at two goals until, with less than three minutes left in the game, Patriots’ Korver scored again.
